A Trust Issue

I went to Bible College in the mid 80’s just before the TV evangelist scandals began.  Then came the stories of the Catholic priests abusing youngsters and more evangelists fell.

I remember Richard Nixon’s resignation following the Watergate hearings that interrupted my cartoon shows when I was a child.  I hoped the TV schedule could return to normal.  Since then even presidents were not overlooked by the media’s watchful eye like JFK’s foibles were.  Congressmen were constantly being outed as perverts, crooks, and liars.

The news media seems to be very indulgent of those in their political arena, and very intolerant of those who don’t pursue that same agenda.  They are increasingly willing to bury stories that don’t fit into their worldview, and are becoming more likely to quickly announce as fact the the things they agree with, even if the science is shaky, at best.

Which brings me to science.  I am noting recent discoveries in refuting climate research that used faulty, even fraudulent data with the express consent of scientists.  It is troubling to see this, as it is compounding the mistrust I’ve had in scientists who have pursued the evolution theory at the expense of even considering other alternatives.  Unlike Einstein, who after making his math theories known, spent the rest of his life trying to disprove them, just to be sure.

I have a hard time trusting.

I do know this:  I trust my wife.  I trust myself.  I trust Jesus.

It is a very dark world.
